I finished Stealing Snow first week of January but, when I bought it last Christmas, I was sure that this novel should be my book recommendation for December.

Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige (499 php)

stealing-snow-ws

We exchanged gifts at the office for my pre-birthday celebration/Christmas party. We settled for 300 php for the present that we wanted to receive and we even had wish list. I only had one in my mind: National Bookstore GC’s. I really hoped to purchase the book that I’ve been itching to read from the first book in the series made me cry like I was chopping an onion.

I didn’t expect to receive a 500 php GC instead of 300 php. I was giddy and I couldn’t wait to use it. Unfortunately, the book was out of stock from several NBS that I went to. I saw this being featured in the NBS instagram account and it piqued my interest so I ended up purchasing it.

Snow Yardley was locked in Whitaker, a psychiatric hospital where she met the love of her life. When Bale disappeared right in front of her eyes, Snow followed a mysterious stranger into a frozen magical world to find him.

What I like about the story:

The Three Witches of Algid and King Lazarus. Algid is a place that Snow doesn’t know that exists. When she came to Algid, she was informed about the three witches: River (Nepenthe), Witch of the Woods (Margot) and Fire Witch (Ora). Nepenthe was secretly in love with the King while Ora is a commoner whom the King fell in love with. King Lazarus was the evil leader of Algid who wants to be the most powerful. But, there was a prophecy that said that his daughter would have the strongest power that can destroy him and his kingdom.

Meet the Three Guys in Snow’s life: Bale, Jagger and Kai! Bale is Snow’s love of her life. She would do anything for Bale even going across the other side of the world. It was a surprise twist on what happened to Bale and who he really was. I knew that there was more than to Kai. He was a non-magic boy who enjoyed building things and protecting Gerde, but he was not easy to read. He held some secrets that might be helpful to or probably it should stay being secrets at all. From the very start, I already liked Jagger. He has been a thief yet, I am drawn on how mysterious his personality is and the fact that it is not his real face he is using and I wonder how he looks like. I’m rooting for him and Snow!

Enter the Ward D, Robber Girls, Gerde and Temperly. She is inside the Whitaker since she is a child. Snow is informed that she has this rare disorder and she has to be treated. In Ward D, she only interacts with Vern, Chord, Magpie and Pi. When Snow goes to Algid, she met Gerde, an apprentice to the Nepenthe and a girl who has a soft heart with magical creatures despite of being a monster. The Robber Girls are amazing for me because they have unique features and power. They also have different personalities which added to Snow’s colorful life. Temperly was a huge surprise! She is Snow’s twin who is secret to Algid but it is quite difficult to figure out if she would be an ally or an enemy to her own sister.

Watch out for the Tree, Prophecy and Mirror. When Snow first saw the Tree, she couldn’t believe that it exists. It was the most unusual tree that she had seen with its intricate script and pictures and its unbelievable height. The Tree is actually the ‘gateway’ to Algid. An oracle was spoken to the Three Wicthes as soon as Snow was born. It was pronounced that Snow will claim the throne or she can give more power to the King. It would not be an easy path though, because Snow should face the prince, the thief, the thinker and the secret before the King would fall. The Mirror is said to be the most powerful thing in Algid and it can amplify the power of King Lazar. The witches broke the mirror and it is scattered among them so that Lazar would have the difficulty of finding and putting it back together.

Quotes:

Vern to Snow

“Sometimes saying something is harder than not saying it. You wouldn’t know because you have no filter, but out there in the world people spend most of their lives afraid to say what’s really on their minds.” – I agree!

Jagger to Snow

“You are not crazy, Snow. You were just lied to. You are not evil. You have magic. It’s not a curse. It’s a gift. I maybe a liar, but I know this much is true.”

How It Ends:

Temperly fled with the piece of the mirror. King Lazar followed her. Ora were killed by Snow. Nepenthe welcomed Snow in her arms.

Verdict:

I loved the concept of prophecy, missing pieces of mirror and a frost kingdom. I was excited from the beginning until the end. There were abrupt twists and turns of events which was very welcoming. There were so many questions on my mind like: Where will Temperly go? Who is her secret lover? Will Nepenthe have a chance now with Snow King? Who would Snow chose, Kai or Jagger? What will happen to the Robber Girls?

I’m hoping that the next book in the series will be out very soon.

Next week, watch out for my January Book Recommendation, I will be reviewing two lovely novels that would make you swoon.

I’m still high from my Manila International Book Fair Haul that’s why my recommended books for this month are the two books I bought.

Tempting Victoria by Mina V. Esguerra (195 PHP)

september-book-reco-2016-tempting-ws

I’m always a fan of Mina Esguerra and I’m glad that I purchased one of her New Adult stories printed under Spark Books.

Victoria Bennett is not your typical college student. She is in control and always in charge, especially if it is about her events business. That’s why when she needed someone to help her for her first official paying client; she will do anything even hiring the notorious heartbreaker Nathan Grant.

What I like about the story:

Mexico and Engagement proposal… I have never been in Mexico and Cozumel seems to be a romantic place to be engaged. The description of the setting makes me want to get a plane ticket a fly all the way there! Trent and Nyssa are very fortunate to meet and be engaged there.

Rule breakers, Dirty Talk and Unofficial Relationship. At the beginning, Victoria and Nathan agreed with some rules while they were working together, but it was difficult to follow rules when at the very start, the two have a thing to each other already. I was blown away with the ‘dirty talk’ from these two via phone. I was giggling while reading their conversation. It was not pointed out if they’ve been officially in a relationship, but who cares? Their chemistry is totally undeniable.

Quotes:

Nathan to Victoria

“It’s not for you then. It’s going to be different for everyone. It’s about what turns you on, what gets you off. If it’s not a crude mouth, then it’s something else. I bother to find out.”

Victoria to Nathan

“Maybe we’re just waiting for someone to prove we were wrong. I’m curious to find out if I can make someone believe that a lifelong commitment is real.”

“I wonder what you taste like. How you’d feel if I take you, suck you like a lollipop. I wonder if I could take you all in. In my mouth. In my throat.” –This is pure torture!

Haley to Nathan

“A chance is not going to be enough, Nathan. Not going to drag you into my own drama, but you’ve got to aim higher. Ask for a chance, and you just might get and nothing else.”

Verdict:

Miss Mina’s novels never fail to mark sometime in my heart. Opposite attracts was too powerful with Nathan and Victoria that I was pulled by them. Thank you for ending the story in New Orleans, one of my favorite places in the world and the bonus short story of Kissing Day was incredible. Hoping for Chris and Dianas’ long story next!

In My Dreams by Yeyet Soriano (240 php)

september-book-reco-2016-in-my-ws

The book cover intrigued me in so many ways and after reading the synopsis, I said to myself, I would like to go to Barrio Malaya and meet the two teenagers who fell in love there.

Olivia ‘Liv’ Roxas, a 16 year old girl who never been out to the real world has an unlimited access to her dream place called Barrio Malaya where Life and Death meet.  A faceless stranger pulled Gabriel ‘Gab’ Sahagun before he can join his parents who died in a freak accident. He can visit Barrio Malaya when his body is being used as a medium for transferring death.

What I like about the story:

Welcome to Barrio Malaya and the wonderful places that it offers. The description quaint town of Barrio Malaya is superb. There is the Kantina that offer milkshakes and fries, the towering library which is Balay Kaalaman and the cinema house called Balay Pelikula. You can see the train at the Estasyon, there is a home called Balay Takipsilim for the elderly and Balay Kalusugan is intended for those people who have terminal illnesses. There is Balay ng Musmos, a house for newborn babies, Balay ni Nanay are made for expectant mothers, but there is a Balay Takipsilim, a house that is far from the train and near the woods where inhabited by people who lost hope and feel that their life is better ended.

The mysterious ticket and the boarded train… When I first read about the ticket, I immediately thought of the Golden Ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the train reminded me so much of Platform 9 and ¾ in Harry Potter Series. Yet, the ticket and the train combination in this story are quite scary. When you received one, chances are you are dead already.

Liv and Gab: The ‘Barrio Malaya’ Unlikely Couple.  A girl who never eats fried chicken again, grew up homeschooling and has an alcoholic mother have a chance to visit Barrio Malaya. She then met the boy who almost boarded the train, lost his parents in young age and has an unusual power to transfer death to another person by just touching. These two became a couple in Barrio Malaya despite of not seeing each other in real life.

Quotes:

Gab to Liv

“This isn’t real life, Liv. I want to be able to see you everytime. And not just when I am about to die.”

Lolo Tonio to Gab

“Dear boy… the power you have is huge. Don’t underestimate it. You are in essence playing God. There are things destined to happen, regardless of what you do.”

Tomas to Liv

“Gab is already strong. He wouldn’t have had the power if he wasn’t. He just needs someone who would understand. He needs someone to be there for him. He needs someone who would love him enough to be with him.” – I agree!

“No, you stop. You are no longer a child, Liv. Stop acting like one. Gab is special. And he chose you. He has both worlds to choose from and he chose you.”  –Thank you Tomas!

‘Gab could transfer death. I knew what my work was. I could help the living communicate. It gave me purpose. It felt good to be able to help.’ –Way to go Liv!

Verdict:

This was the first novel that I read from Miss Yet and I was amazed on how well-written this story is. After reading it, I found myself craving for more of her stories with this kind of genre. Congratulations Miss Yet, I love Liv, Gab and Barrio Malaya, I’m grateful that you introduced them with me.

It is Buwan ng Wika! I’m proud of being a Filipino with more than 170 regional languages. This month is very special for us because it is a celebration of our dear language: Filipino, and because of that, I’m featuring two local authors and their wonderful stories.

Anonymous by Gypsy Esguerra (159.75 php)

I’ve seen this book for quite sometime, but I had doubt if I bought it because at that time, I was writing a story with the same genre.

Yet, I finally purchased it when I badly needed an inspiration for revamping an old story.

Anonymous is about Lanie who doesn’t believe in paranormal things, but when she met Cid, a guy who apparently told her that she has a ‘companion’-an entity who is always with her, she wants to find out more about him.

What I like about the story:

The mysterious ‘guy’… It is freaky knowing that you have someone with you which you cannot see. I understand Lanie if she became interested and curious with ‘Anon’, yes, she gave a name with the ‘spirit’. It actually fitted with his personality.

Meet Lolo Theo and the RIP (Reviewers and Inquisitors of the Paranormal). I seriously like Lolo Theo aka Brown Man, I believed he was a cool grandfather who knows a lot with paranormal things. I also adore the rest of the team, namely: Cid, Sydney, Abby and Gab who have gifted abilities.

The ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ love story of Lanie and Anon. I admired Anon for not giving up to Lanie with all the mistakes and heartaches that he made from his past life. I also cannot blame Lanie if she keeps on running away with the person who hurt her so much.

Fascinating Facts!

From Lolo Theo:

“Soulmates simply means two souls that compliment each other. In other words, they are the perfect match.”

“Our soul has the ability to recycle itself. Souls keep on coming back with different reasons but most of them have an unfinished mission. Some probably want to learn something or experience something they weren’t able to do when they were alive.”

From Cid:

“Ghosts are the souls of the people who just died while spirits are the souls who have already crossed over the astral plane and who decided to come back on earth but not in human form.”

From Gab:

“Hindi mo ba alam na minsan ay tinatawag ng ibang tao ang moonstone na ‘dream stone’? Because it brings the wearer beautiful visions at night. They also say that wearing a moonstone strenghtens one’s intuition and capacity to understand.”

From Sydney:

“May iba’t ibang klase ng soulmate, it could be a companion, a twin or a twin flame. Pero hindi lahat nakikilala at napapangasaw ang soul mate nila. The level of the relationship with our soul mate could also vary into three. First, is the mirror image, this type comes into our life in a fast, weird, and unexpected way. Sila iyong mga taong kapareho natin ng interes, iyong tipong kaya nating dugtungan ang sinasabi nila kahit bitin pa ang pagkakasabi ng mga iyon. It is simply being in the same wavelength.”

“Second is the supporter. These types are those who are ready to listen to our problems and offer some help. The third type is the provider. We refer to them as our angel sometimes because we meet them in an unexpected place and time. Their role is to provide use with an answer or a push toward making a small decision in order to keep us moving in our lives.”

Verdict:

I was intrigued with the cover and the synopsis of this book. I actually didn’t read it during night-time because I was a bit scared that I might envision Anon with me. I liked the concept, but I was disappointed with the ending. I was rooting for Cid but deep inside Lanie’s heart, it was Anon all along. Great job to Gypsy Esguerra, Anonymous convinced me to buy your other novel!

Androngynous by Gypsy Esguerra (159.75 php)

The word was unfamiliar to me that I have to check the dictionary for the meaning and it instantly piqued my interest.

This is the second story that I read from Gypsy Esguerra.

Jair came to Aly’s dream, informing her that she will die in two weeks. Aly was not yet ready, but she promptly prepared to say goodbyes to her loved one. What she didn’t expect was to come face to face with Jair in the most unexpected way.

What I like about the story:

The Psychopomp’s Abilities… When a psychopomp visited you in your dream and he/she will tell you that you will die soon, chances are it will come true. I actually like the concept of psychopomps and their abilities like having no emotion, no attachment with the one they fetched and their willpower to be human.

Aly’s Positive Outlook with Death. If you are told that you only have 14 days to live, what will you do? Are you going to freak out? Start to do the things that you want? I admired Alyssa on how she calmly accepted that she is going to die, but at the same time questioned about the timing. It was like she was expecting the news, but still she was surprised.

Fascinating Facts!

*Bilang isang psychopomp, ang trabaho nila ay siguraduhing makakatawid nang maayos ang mga kaluluwa ng mga kamamatay lang na mga tao. Unlike spirits, psychopomps could not undergo the process of reincarnation. They were considered as higher beings than spirits so they could be humans simply through their own decision. They could retain their memories and pick the timeline and person they’ll be with.

*Normally those who saw them had already died. Psychopomps usually showed their real self to the dying. Often they can appear as something else.

From Syd

“Premonition warns you that something is going to happen in the future. Precognition gives me knowledge what will happen exactly in the future.”

Quotes:

Aly to Jair

“Minahal pero hindi sa paraang inaakala ko. I suddenly realized I didn’t fall in love with him. I just chose to be practical so I won’t be alone. Then I realized people don’t just get married because of love. They choose someone to rely on so that when love fades there’s still a reason for them to stay together.” –So true!

“Some people just want to be reminded of what they lost. They said it is not remembering that makes it all painful. It’s thinking someone no longer exists that makes it horrible.”

“The perfect death isn’t a painless sudden death. Nothing is perfect. Even age and status would be useless in a near death experience.”

Jair to Aly

“Simple lang naman ang plano ko, Aly. Gusto ko lang na makasama ka palagi. Huwag kang mag-aasawa. Ako na lang mag-aalaga sa iyo.”

‘He was just obsessed with all the information regarding Alyssa. That was his first reason for always touching her during the last day before he became human. But after last night he realized that he loved touching her and he loved the way he felt whenever she was touching him. Jair was sure now. He wanted her to be his wife.’

Jair to Cid

“Souls of the departed are considered tickets to travel to another world. Oras na maihatid na ng isang pyschopomp ang isang kaluluwa ay bumabalik sa mundo ng mga tao ang pyschopomp para muling manundo.”

Verdict:

I love it, from the beginning until the end that I wasn’t able to put in down even a minute and I even slept in the early hours in the morning. Jair is perfect for Aly and I was speechless with the things that he sacrificed to be with lucky woman. I’m very satisfied with the ending. Congratulations to Gypsy for this masterpiece!

The Girl Between Two Worlds by K.M. Levis (275 php)

The first one that caught my eyes was the unique book cover followed by the fascinating story title.

When I read the synopsis, one word came out of my mouth: BUY!

On the 16th birthday of Karina Harris, a half-Australian, half-Filipina who is residing in the USA, supernatural things started to happen. A dead flower became alive, a ‘mananggal’ almost killed her and her supposed dead ‘grandfather’ came to their house to tell her that she is a daughter of an ‘engkanto’ princess.

What I like about the story:

The clash of Engkanto and Manananggal… Who have thought that these two would be enemies in a story? Both of them have different powers, abilities and characteristics, yet one wants peace while the other is avenging for domination.

Good versus Bad: Allies and Enemies. Karina is fighting to save her world and Engkantasia with the help of the leader of the five tribes: Haring Magatu (Engkanto tribe), Kamudo (Kapre tribe), Pili (Duwende tribe), Gulat (Tikbalang tribe), Serra and Yukoy (Sirena and Syokoy Tribe) while on the other hand, Mirasol led the pack of Mananggal with the aid of Yanuk (Tiyanak clan), Segunda (Sigbin clan), Nonok (Nuno sa Punso clan) and Kurnula (Wakwak clan). I am amazed with the selection of the names and the creatures because I was not familiar with some of it.

Responsibility, True Identity and Real Love… Karina is just a teenager who is torn between finding her mother and being the queen of a kingdom that she didn’t know existed. Yet, the biggest challenge of her life is falling in love with someone whom she should not have. My heart goes to Karina and Jason.

Verdict:

This book made me more appreciative about Filipino legends and supernatural beings. I was informed and at the same time, I learned a lot. The combination of modern and unknown world is superb! The ending was quite a surprise, but it gave readers something they want to look forward to. The book cover is very appealing and the drawings of the creatures are fantastic! Well done! Thank you K.M. Levis, I will be waiting for the Book 2! I am hoping for a better ending for Karina and Jason.

When J.K. Rowling announced that Cursed Child will be released as a book, everyone went gaga and excited to have their hands with the script novel.

I haven’t had my own copy yet, but I will have soon. As a celebration of being a huge Harry Potter fan, my book recommendation for July is non-other than one of J.K. Rowling’s books!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (299 php)

Fantastic Beasts ws

You might see the trailer of this upcoming movie and you might wonder, what is the book all about? Is this another book-based film?

The answer: NO

This 86 page book is entirely about the magical creatures that you’ve seen in past Harry Potter films and the rest you will meet for the first time soon on the big screen.

It is written by Newt Scamander; he was an expelled student from Hogwarts, but later on worked in the Ministry of Magic. He was an incredible magizoologist. He was never seen in HP films, but his name appeared, though in the Marauder’s Map. (Check Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them tells the history of Magizoology and introduced 85 magical species found around the world.

*Ministry of Magic (MOM) Classifications*

xxxxx- Beast that are consider a wizard killer/ impossible to train or domesticate.

xxxx- Beasts that are dangerous, requires specialist knowledge but skilled wizard may handle them.

xxx- Beasts that competent wizard should cope.

xx- Beasts that are harmless and maybe domesticated

x- Beasts that is boring

~Meet ‘some’ of the Fantastic Beasts~

  1. Acromantula (xxxxx) > A monstrous eighty-eyed spider capable of human speech. Remember Aragog from Chamber of Secrets? He is the perfect example!
  2. Ashwinder (xxx) >A thin, pale-gray serpent with glowing red eyes that only lives for an hour. What freak me out: They are found worldwide!
  3. Basilisk (xxxxx) > A brilliant green serpent that have large yellow eyes. Anyone looking directly into these will suffer instant death. Poor Moaning Myrtle…
  4. Centaur (xxxx) > The centaur has a human head, torso and arms joined to a horse body who is being intelligent and capable of speech. Where is Professor Firenze now?
  5. Dragon (xxxxx) > The most famous of all magical beasts and the most difficult to hide. The Hungarian Horntail is the most dangerous of all dragon breeds. Hagrid’s Baby Norbert on the other hand is a Norwegian Ridgeback which nowadays one of the rarest dragon breeds.
  6. Hippogriff (xxx) > It has a head of a giant eagle and the body of a horse. It still broke my heart when Buckbeak was about to be executed.
  7. Kappa (xxxx) > The Kappa is a Japanese water demon that inhabits shallow ponds and rivers. Often said to look like a monkey with fish scales instead of fur and they feeds on human blood! Vampire beast?
  8. Leprechaun (xxx) > More intelligent than fairy, but nevertheless mischievous and they can only be found in Ireland. They produce a realistic gold-like substance that vanishes after few hours!
  9. Moke (xxx) > A silver-green lizard reaching up to ten inches in length and they have the ability to shrink at will but consequently never been noticed by Muggles. I wonder if we will able to see a Moke in the film.
  10. Nundu (xxxxx) > This east African beast is arguably the most dangerous in the world. A giant leopard that moves silently despite its size and whose breath causes disease virulent enough to eliminate entire villages. Scary!
  11. Phoenix (xxxx) > The phoenix is a magnificent, swan-sized, scarlet bird with a long golden tail, beak and talons. It is a gentle creature that has never been known to kill and eats only herbs. My favorite beast!
  12. Runespoor (xxxx) > A three-headed serpent that was once a favorite pet of Dark Wizards. Each of the Runespoor’s heads serves different purposes. The left head is the planner which decides where to go and what to do next. The middle head is the dreamer and the right head is the critic that will evaluate the efforts of the left and middle heads with a continual irritable hissing. They are the only known magical beast that produces eggs through its mouth. I’m interested to see a Runespoor on big screen!
  13. Unicorn (xxxx) > It is a pure white, horned horse that said to have magical properties and unicorn is very difficult to capture. Bad Quirell!
  14. Werewolf (xxxxx) > Humans turn into werewolves only when bitten. There is no known cure. Who would forget Lupin?

Verdict:

For some this book is just a waste of time and money but of you are a truly Potterhead, you should not miss Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them. I’m actually excited for the film, which will be out by November. I can’t wait to see the beasts that will be shown and the backstory about Newt Scamander!

August Book Recommendation is about local authors and stories because it is Buwan of Wika! Proud of our Filipino language! Watch out for it by the end of the month, I will be featuring not one but THREE BOOKS!

I’m missing my May Book Recommendations because my file is not with me right now, but I will be posting it soon as soon as I retrieve it. Apologies!

For now, here comes my June Book Recommendation! I know this is a bit late as well, but I hope you will add this novel to your reading bucket list!

Archer’s Voice (A sign of love Novel)

to be delete

Have you read a book that the cover seems intriguing and yet it captivated you?

This happened when my hands got Archer’s Voice. It was given to me by my sister from the US. I’m not sure though if this available here in the Philippines but I’m still sharing why I love this book and you might like it too!

Bree Prescott desperately seeks peace. She cannot live with her past anymore. She wanted to run far away from home and she found Pelion, Maine. The sleepy, lakeside town is the perfect place to start for a new life. Yet on her first day, she met Archer Hale, the isolated man everyone, not seeing or not cares to see. A man who has a secret of his own that captured Bree’s attention instantly.

What I like about the story:

The enigmatic partially deaf and mute, Archer. He may look like a caveman, but Archer surely knows how to win one’s heart. He lived alone in his huge mansion, he works with his own hands and he walks from miles just to be with Bree when he knows he scared of thunderstorms. I enjoyed the mystery of his character; it lets you wonder if this kind of guy is still exists.

Bree’s horrifying night and Archer’s traumatic childhood. The deaths of their loved ones push Bree and Archer together. Bree’s father died and that night changed everything for her. Right in Archer’s eyes, his mother and the uncle whom he loves dearly died and leaving him orphaned. Something revealed about him and it totally changes his life forever.

Quotes to remember:
Archer to Bree
You did fight, Bree. You survived. You fought to live. And you did.”

Maybe there was no right or wrong, no black or white, only a thousand shades of gray when it came to pain and what we each held ourselves responsible for.

“Because I don’t want to be anyone except you. I didn’t want her. I only want you. I only want you, Bree.”- My heart!
Bree to Archer
Archer’s arms were my home- the only place I wanted to be, the place where I feel safe. The place where I felt loved.

“Loving you isn’t a burden. Loving you is an honor and a joy, Archer. You couldn’t talk me out of loving you, if you tried anyway. It’s not a choice for me. It’s just a truth.”

Bad things don’t happen to people because they deserve them to happen. It just doesn’t work that way. It’s just…life. And no matter who we are, we have to take hand we’re dealt, crappy though it maybe, and try our very best to move forward anyway, to move anyway to have hope anyway… to have faith, that there’s a purpose to the journey were continue. And try to believe that maybe more light shines out of those who have the most cracks.

“Sometimes I think of those little pieces of fabric when life feels really messy and difficult to understand. I try to close my eyes and believe that even though I can’t see the other side I’m looking of is ugly and muddled, there’s a masterpiece that’s being woven out of all the knots and loose strings. I try to believe that same thing beautiful can result from something ugly, and that there will come a time when I’ll get to see what that is. You helped me see my own picture, Archer. Let me help you see yours.”

Archer to Bree
And sometimes, that’s all it takes-one person who’s willing to listen to your heart, to the sound no one else has ever tried to hear.
Verdict:
I found the book cover very intriguing and I knew that it is a love story, yet I was still amazed how Mia Sheridan pinched my heart with sadness and made my heart soared with happiness. I’m very ecstatic because I will see Archer Hale soon on the big screen! I hope the filmmakers will give justice to the book.

It was the book cover that immediately captured my interest.

No Love Allowed book cover

Photo from Goodreads.com

I fell in love with the lovely cover! I was fortunate enough to read the Advance Reader’s Copy from Pinoy Book Tours and it perfectly came this month of love!

Expected publication: April 19th 2016 by Swoon Reads

Synopsis:

It’s all fun and parties until someone falls in love in this modern fairy tale from author Kate Evangelista.

Caleb Parker desperately needs a fake girlfriend. Either he attends a series of parties for his father’s law firm with a pretty girl on his arm, or he gets shipped off to Yale to start a future he’s not ready for and isn’t sure he wants. And sadly, the last unattached girl in his social circle has just made the grievous mistake of falling in love with him.

Fortunately, DianaDidi’ Alexander, recently fired waitress and aspiring painter, is open to new experiences. As the summer ticks by in a whirl of lavish parties, there’s only one rule: They must not fall in love!

What I like about the story:

The Fake Relationship. I’ve been reading a lot of stories about pretending to be in a relationship for the sake of moving on but this one as soon as I started reading, it didn’t make me feel feigned about it. Caleb’s concern to Didi was priceless and Didi’s personality was contagious.

The Parker boys. It was like I was being tortured while I read about Caleb, Nathan and Preston. Can they be real? Their descriptions were so effective that I wanted to be Didi or Natasha at the same time!

All the ‘FIRSTS’ for Didi and Caleb. This couple made me believe of happy ever after and forever though there were a lot of complications from both sides. The surprise jump from the cliff, the exciting event from Fourth of July, their memorable kiss and who won’t forget their dinner at the museum with their very special meal?

Quotes to remember:

*Page 37

Nathan to Caleb

“Love is love. If she feels that way, then let her. It doesn’t mean you have to return it.”

*Page 143

Caleb to Didi

“That was when I realized all love does is hurt people. It lulls you into false sense of security, and then bam! You slam into a brick wall of pain. A shit ton of pain. Love destroys people to the point where they don’t even care who else they hurt in process.”

*Page 201

Caleb to Angela

“I can’t see the future, Angela but I do know one thing. Whether I stay in your daughter’s life or not should be up to her. Just let me see her.”
*Page 209

Angela to Didi

“But no matter how wrong I thought your relationship was I can’t ignore the fact that you were happy. That he made you happy. I think I made a mistake in asking him to disappear from your life. And I think you’ll regret it someday if you allow him to leave. I don’t want to deny you the chance to be with him if that is what you truly want.”

*Page 225

Caleb to Didi

“I should have known that from the moment I met you that there would be no going back. That I will never be the same. I know now that I’ll never recover from loving you, Diana Alexander.”

*Page 228

“You’re the first girl I’ve ever fallen in love with.”

“You’re the first boy I’ve ever allowed myself to love.”

How it ends:

Dinner. McDo. Paintings. Van Gogh. Museum.

Verdict:

This is the first novel that I read from Kate Evangelista and I enjoyed it very much! It was light and fun to read. It was very realistic that it can happen to anyone. Kate’s writing style was flawless and the words which she used was not very complicated. The vibe of reading this novel made my heart burst in happiness from the beginning up to the end.

I highly recommend that you purchase this book once it hit the leading bookstores!

I can’t wait for April and have my own physical copy of this novel! Hopefully Miss Kate will have a meet and greet and she signed this book for me.

Perk’s rating: 5/5 (I’m a huge fan of Caleb and Didi!)

Again, thank you very much to Pinoy Book Tours for the ARC and the blog tour!  And to Kate Evangelista for this wonderful story!

I fell in love with Monk aka Nicolas when I read Harder To Fall and now that he’s best buddy and hottie rugby player, Grayson takes the spotlight for the 3rd Addition Hill Novel: Learning To Fall, I was ecstatic!

Synopsis:

“Go out with a stereotypical romance novel hero WHO ISN’T YOUR TYPE.”

Avid reader and art student Steph is participating in a monthly blog challenge to Live Like Fiction, and this was the task for October. When Grayson, former co-captain of her university rugby team, walks into her class, she knows it’s meant to be – she has to go out with this guy. Even if she’s never been attracted to big, hunky, athletic types. With Grayson’s “player” reputation off the field, Steph thinks he’ll be good for one date that’ll be worth blogging about, and that’s it.

But you know how it goes: Soon, it becomes more than just one date – and Steph and Grayson are caught up in “living like fiction.” How long can they keep playing their roles before reality steps in?

What I like about the story:

The artistic and creative Steph! I see myself with Steph. Not the artist side of her because I’m not good in painting/drawing but the blogger/book reviewer side of her. I love this girl a lot! She is part-time instructor (like me) and blogger (she likes books) who creates masterpieces with her hands and forms inspiring blog entries.

Grayson is not the typical Rugby player. The happy-go-lucky man I pictured on my mind when I read about Grayson was not I expected when I learned about his hardships and love for the sports. I was heart-broken and at the same time happy for this big guy for meeting Steph! Can I also have a boyfriend like him even though we are just pretending?

Family versus dreams versus careers. Steph and Grayson’s aspirations and goals in life were like hitting the bull-eye. Before getting to the target, there are a lot of interventions and obstacles that they have to face with or without the help of each other.

Pages to remember!

Chapter 7:

Learning to fall Chapter 7

The Girlfriend Stuff

Learning to fall, like to spend time

How it ends:

Blog entry and the perfect boyfriend ever!

Verdict:

I’m jovial that I learned new things about rugby (which I’m not familiar with)! The concept and the plot of the story were good. The Live Like Fiction challenge was also awesome though if I am in the shoes of Steph, I might not try it. Was it really the end? Can I ask for more Team #Stayson? I can’t wait to have a paper back copy of this new adult novel and the book cover is lovely indeed!

Thank you for the Advance Reader’s Copy!
