2015 had been an eye-opener to me. It introduced me to the greatest opportunity that I’ve been waiting for.
I went back to writing stories. But this time, I decided to take a step further. I attended an online writing workshop last September. It was not an ordinary workshop. The genre was Paranormal and I was not confident to finish an English story with 5,000 words. Somehow, I surprised myself because I was able to come up with a finished product that was more than the word count needed in just two weeks. Whoopi!
It was the door that opened to me to continue pursuing my first love which is writing. Last January, I submitted a short story with a different genre and before the month ended, I joined a writing contest for a self-published book featuring a collection of romantic short stories.
I was doubtful with myself on producing a love story. It had been a while since I wrote one and I wanted to back out, but the extension of the submission convinced me to try my luck.
Unexpectedly, I was part of Jahric Lago Presents: Dreamlovers top 10 entries and it was the best thing that happened to my writing career so far.
I was very grateful that I’m sharing it with you, my dear readers!
I’ve been keeping this wonderful news for quite some time and yes, the self-published book will finally be out before this month ends! Yipee!

It was the book cover that immediately captured my interest.
I fell in love with the lovely cover! I was fortunate enough to read the Advance Reader’s Copy from Pinoy Book Tours and it perfectly came this month of love!
Expected publication: April 19th 2016 by Swoon Reads
It’s all fun and parties until someone falls in love in this modern fairy tale from author Kate Evangelista.
Caleb Parker desperately needs a fake girlfriend. Either he attends a series of parties for his father’s law firm with a pretty girl on his arm, or he gets shipped off to Yale to start a future he’s not ready for and isn’t sure he wants. And sadly, the last unattached girl in his social circle has just made the grievous mistake of falling in love with him.
Fortunately, Diana ‘Didi’ Alexander, recently fired waitress and aspiring painter, is open to new experiences. As the summer ticks by in a whirl of lavish parties, there’s only one rule: They must not fall in love!
What I like about the story:
The Fake Relationship. I’ve been reading a lot of stories about pretending to be in a relationship for the sake of moving on but this one as soon as I started reading, it didn’t make me feel feigned about it. Caleb’s concern to Didi was priceless and Didi’s personality was contagious.
The Parker boys. It was like I was being tortured while I read about Caleb, Nathan and Preston. Can they be real? Their descriptions were so effective that I wanted to be Didi or Natasha at the same time!
All the ‘FIRSTS’ for Didi and Caleb. This couple made me believe of happy ever after and forever though there were a lot of complications from both sides. The surprise jump from the cliff, the exciting event from Fourth of July, their memorable kiss and who won’t forget their dinner at the museum with their very special meal?
Quotes to remember:
Nathan to Caleb
“Love is love. If she feels that way, then let her. It doesn’t mean you have to return it.”
Caleb to Didi
“That was when I realized all love does is hurt people. It lulls you into false sense of security, and then bam! You slam into a brick wall of pain. A shit ton of pain. Love destroys people to the point where they don’t even care who else they hurt in process.”
Caleb to Angela
“I can’t see the future, Angela but I do know one thing. Whether I stay in your daughter’s life or not should be up to her. Just let me see her.”
Angela to Didi
“But no matter how wrong I thought your relationship was I can’t ignore the fact that you were happy. That he made you happy. I think I made a mistake in asking him to disappear from your life. And I think you’ll regret it someday if you allow him to leave. I don’t want to deny you the chance to be with him if that is what you truly want.”
Caleb to Didi
“I should have known that from the moment I met you that there would be no going back. That I will never be the same. I know now that I’ll never recover from loving you, Diana Alexander.”
“You’re the first girl I’ve ever fallen in love with.”
“You’re the first boy I’ve ever allowed myself to love.”
How it ends:
Dinner. McDo. Paintings. Van Gogh. Museum.
This is the first novel that I read from Kate Evangelista and I enjoyed it very much! It was light and fun to read. It was very realistic that it can happen to anyone. Kate’s writing style was flawless and the words which she used was not very complicated. The vibe of reading this novel made my heart burst in happiness from the beginning up to the end.
I highly recommend that you purchase this book once it hit the leading bookstores!
I can’t wait for April and have my own physical copy of this novel! Hopefully Miss Kate will have a meet and greet and she signed this book for me.
Perk’s rating: 5/5 (I’m a huge fan of Caleb and Didi!)
Again, thank you very much to Pinoy Book Tours for the ARC and the blog tour! And to Kate Evangelista for this wonderful story!
Happy Hearts Day everyone!
I know we are still high from the celebration yesterday. Whether you are with your special someone, family or friends, I hope you had a great day.
Two weeks ago, it dawned to me that I’ve been recommending books for one year already. Yes, Perk’s Recommended Book celebrated its one year last month. And because I was a very busy bee with work and writing, I forgot about it.
That’s why I decided to have this very special contest. It is still the month of love and I’m giving away not ONLY ONE but FOURTEEN BOOKS to a lucky reader of mine.
If you are a book worm or you just simply like reading books, this promo is for you!
Starting today, February 15 until February 28, I will be featuring 14 BOOKS everyday. The books are NEW/SIGNED OR PRE-LOVED by yours truly. And because I’m supporting Filipino writers, all of the books are written by local authors.
The first give-away book is…
FAMOUS MEETS BAD GIRL by Sweet Admirer (Summit Books)- NEW!
Elusive, classy, and spontaneous-these words perfectly describe Princess Trish Lua. Pero kapag hinamon siya sa isang pagtatalo, sho won’t back down even if brash and snarky remarks get her into trouble.
Kuntento na siya sa kanyang maliit na mundo, but then she meets the famous yet obnoxious jerk, Terrence Andrew Sy, who turns her life into a series of ups and downs.
Magkatuluyan kaya sila sa huli? Or will one of them give up once their deepest secrets are out in the open?
I will be using a rafflecopter but the determination of winner will be on the last task that I will be adding on the 28th!
Rafflecopter tab: https://www.facebook.com/Perks-Be-With-You-316743821763572/app/228910107186452/
Announcement of winner will be on the 29th!
Don’t forget to click the rafflecopter tab and send in your entries.
Watch out for the 2nd book tomorrow!
NOTE: Books are not sponsored. Either there were given to me or I bought it.
This is the 2nd year of giving away prizes for my dear readers who enjoy commenting and sharing their insights with my blog.
Starting this year, Perk’s Pick of the Month will have MONTHLY THEMES and because I wasn’t able to post for January perk’s Pick, I will combined last month and this February.
The winner of March will get GRADUATION CEREMONY suprise items which I will reveal after announcing the lucky name.
How can you win?
-Comment to any of my posts this month (March), quantity over quality please.

Today is the release day of Jessica Larsen’s newest romance book: Minsan Pa!

1. The Goodbye Girl by Noringai (185 PHP)
Have you heard or seen of Parang Kayo, Pero Hindi or Buti Pa Ang Roma May Bagong Papa in the leading bookstores?
If you read it, good for you! If not, then perhaps, it is time to check out Noringai or Noreen Besmar Capili’s humorous and inspiring books. Her latest addition is The Goodbye Girl.
It is a compilation of sentimental stories from being an invisible girl to a new girl.
*The Invisible Girl*
~Ang Kwento ni Dana (Ang Babaeng Sinisisi ang Tequila)
“I was with the man who made me feel the bliss of falling in love, and the pain of disillusionment.”
~The Letter E
– Ouch!
“You may have lost someone who can never love you, but he someone who loves him more than anyone could.” – I agree!
~Crazy Little Thing Called Limerence
“I therefore conclude ang limerence ay isang form of obsession. And you can’t define obsession. It’s madness.”
–Love this!
*The Other Girl*
~Ang Kwento ni Keira (Ang BabaengMatagal nang Kinakarma)
“Wala akong laban sa iyo. Para sa kanya, ikaw yung familiar. Yung consistent at comforting. Safe and steady. Ako yung risk. Adventure. An escape.
–Exactly!
*The Broken-hearted Girl*
~Ang Kwento ni Nica (Ang Babaeng Mahilig sa Throwback)
“I guess it’s really true. The one who makes you the happiest is also the one who can hurt you most.”
Basta masakit.”
~Ang Kwento ni Paula (Ang Babaeng Atat Magpaalam)
“But I’m sorry B, this has to end. Because you maybe what I really want. But you’re not what I need.”
~Ang Kwento ni Quessa (Ang Babaeng Nangangailangan ng Condom Para sa Puso)
“Dear Heart, sana pwede kitang lagyan ng condom ngayon. Proteksyon.
*The Bitter Girl*
~Ang Kwento ni Sheila (Ang Reyna ng Sablay)
“Wala akong meet cute.
Maging ampalaya. Pagkatapos mong maging bitter, hintayin mo lang, iisang letra lang. And you will be better.” –Win!
*The New Girl*
~Ang Kwento ni Yana (Ang Babaeng Nakapagbabang-Luksa Na)
“I will never find someone like you. Because I will find someone better than you.” –Go girl!
~The Perfect Closure
“He was your worst heartache. But he was also your best teacher.”
–Peace of mind.
“In every headache, time is our friend. Time will erase the anger, the bitterness, and the pain. And time will teach us that wound, now matter how deep, will eventually heal.” –Amen to this!
I enjoyed every story of this book. I laughed and cried with the ladies I was able to relate to. For you who is still bitter and have heartache, it is time to say goodbye to those two.
2. Move On. Walang Forever! by Marcelo Santos III (195 PHP)
Remember last March when I attended the book signing and I had a chance to ask what is Marcelo Santos III next book? After the best-selling book Mahal Mo Siya, Mahal Ka Ba?, here comes Move On. Walang Forever that surely would blow your heart and mind.
It makes you think and realize the real essence and meaning of forever and moving on.
~Quotes and Words to Live By! ~
I. Una gusto kitang saktan. Yung pisikal na sakit. Pero hindi ko kaya.
II.
#Advice Pa More!#
-> According to MarceloSantos III, “You can live without him. He’s not your world. (Andiyan si God. Siya ang mundo mo.)
->But at the end of the day…
bigla kang nanlamig kaya naging mapait bigla.
RELOS (Instrumentong nagsasabi ng oras)
Sana may relos din ang pagmamahal
para masabi niya kung tama na ba
o patuloy lang sa pagpapaktanga.
Sana may tamang oras din ang lahat,
tamang oras para makalimutan ka,
tamang panahon para magmahal na ng iba.
