romancing the duke

In the first story from the Castle Ever After Series: Romancing the Duke, the 26 year old Isolde Ophelia Goodnight who believes in knights and maidens got a big surprise in her life when she met the ravishing but mysterious Duke of Rothbury Ransom William Dacre Vane.
Synopsis:

Title: Romancing the Duke (Castles Ever After #1) Author: Tessa Dare
Publisher: Avon
Date of Publication: January 28, 2014

In the first in Tessa Dare’s captivating Castles Ever After series, a mysterious fortress is the setting for an unlikely love . . .
As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooks offered endless possibilities.
And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one.
Ugly duckling turned swan?

Abducted by handsome highwayman?

Rescued from drudgery by charming prince? No, no, and… Heh.
Now Izzy’s given up yearning for romance. She’ll settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over for an impoverished twenty six year old woman who’s never even been kissed?

This one.

What I like about the story:
Goodnight Tales. When I read it for the first time, it reminds me of Camelot and Grimm Brothers’ stories. There is so much more with the Criselda and Ulric’s love story and the voice behind it. I was surprised to know who were it and even the Shadow Knight!
Izzy is not easy to back down. She is a protagonist who is clever, stubborn and compassionate but every heroine also has their own weaknesses. She is a dreamer, lack confidence with her beauty and she is afraid of the dark. Yet I like how she uses both her strengths and flaws to capture everyone’s heart.
The minor characters that worth a look! Most of historical romance novels that I read there were a lot of characters and I believe this are the first book that I read that there were only few extras to remember. There is the loyal valet Duncan, the always excited Abigail Pelham and watch out for Magnus and the Snowdrop the Ermine.
The scarred and unloved Ransom who stole my heart! Some readers like roguish and devilish man but I always prefer those who are enigmatic and unwanted guy. Ransom is such a cute name for a duke! I fell in love with him when he started to care and do sweet things with Izzy without even realizing it. What a gentleman!

How it ends:

Dreams do come true! Izzy only wishes for a home but she got a castle and her prince charming along the way.

Verdict:
Tessa Dare makes me love and appreciate historical romance books more! If you are not familiar with this genre, I highly recommended this novel as your starter and you will surely be hook!

Thank you Pinoy Book Tours for given a chance to read and review this wonderful story!
