It was two months ago since I attended the first book signing of a Filipino writer. And just recently I went to a book launch of a Filipina romance novelist.
Mina Esguerra is not a new name in local book shelves in fact she’s been writing for few years already. I remembered the first time that I saw her novel at the book store, I was curious but I wasn’t able buy one because I was looking for a job back then.
Good thing there was book signing for Miss Mina’s latest books under the Sparks Publishing House. It happened last April 25 at Greenbelt 4, Makati, 3-5 pm.

I only bought one book but that day, they offered discount! I had to grab that opportunity and bought another one!
Before the actual book signing, there was a small interview courtesy of the two lovely hostesses.

Miss Mina was all smiles when she was introduced and she cheerfully greeted her exciting fans.

Books signed! Hooray!

Three things that I learned from the interview:

1. New Adult: First time to hear this genre. It is the new trend of story where the characters’ age ranges from 18-25 years old.

2. Steamy Scenes: Miss Mina incorporated it to her latest books for two reasons: a dare and she’s thinking that her readers are getting older.
3. Self-published: She started to publish her works on her own before she got partners to help her to market her novels.

~What I’m excited about~

Miss Mina is currently teaching online novella classes and she happily informed us that she might have an urban fantasy and crime online classes soon. How thrilling!

It was nice meeting a wonderful writer! 🙂

The Harder We Fall (Review)

It started with a project and dislike with sports.
Setting: Addition Hills (San Francisco, California)
@Meet the Characters@
*Daria– A graduating student who wants to win an internship spot in a documentary that will start filing in Europe.

*Nicholas/Monk- The previous Captain of the Rugby team who is heading to Japan to play for a professional team.
What I like about the story:

Rugby in general. I’m interested with this sport because I’m not familiar with it and reading this book makes me knowledgeable with it. I actually wanted to see rugby game live!

Family and relationships. Daria’s mother died when she was still young while Nicholas’s mother is sick right now. Both are single when they meet and it is good that they don’t have commitment issues.

Love versus Dreams. I believed this had been the struggle/conflict of the story. They fell in love but their dreams do not intertwine. Unexpectedly, one gave up the dream for the sake of the other one.

How It Ends:
There was a closure and something to look forward to.

Another book from Miss Mina that you can check out!

Welcome to Envy Park synopsis:
Moira Vasquez is a doer. A planner. A get-up-and-goer. At twenty-two, she left her hometown to work in Singapore, to satisfy a need to travel as well as give her savings account a boost. Five years later and she’s back in Manila, with a shiny new apartment to her name, but no job, no career, no boyfriend. She meets Ethan Lorenzo, the quiet hunk of an IT consultant on the ninth floor of her condo building, and he’s a welcome distraction during this period of having absolutely nothing going on in her life.
But she has a plan – of course she does – and this is just a short layover on the way to the next country, the next job, the next big thing. Or will she be missing out on something great that’s already there?
