When you talk about creativeness, I’m just a so-so. That’s why when Belle De Jour invited Bellas to be part of their Passion Series, I couldn’t say no especially it should be at Red Mango!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love eating desserts, but to actually make your own parfait, wow that is something new! Red Mango has been my friends and my favorite dessert whenever we ate dinner at the mall.
It was my first time to go to Red Mango Katipunan. The Passion series started with one in the afternoon and it was an intimate event where they invited fewer participants.

The speaker of the event is the jolly Beam Mariano. She is the owner of Artwine and a food stylist.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Everyone was excited to create their own parfait and Beam gave helpful tips to make a great presentation of our own yogurt parfait.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Five tips:
1. Add sliced fruits (brightly colored ones) should be in the bottom.
*Sprinkle/dab lemon on the fruits to make it look fresh.
2. Layer it with yogurt.
3. Put some granola, cornflakes or nuts for a surprise crunch!
4. Dry out fruits using a little tissue to remove extra moisturizes.
5. Top it off with yogurt/whipped cream.
6. Add festivities! Garnishes: sprinkles, chocolate syrup or caramel sauce.

We were giving a piece of paper where the list of toppings was written.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I realized when I saw it that it was difficult to make your own parfait from scratch. I liked that they let us to discover the right combination of toppings.

It was the first time that Red Mango allowed customers in their counter and creates their own yogurt parfait.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi friends!

I was glad to be part of the history!

While waiting for our turn, our team Cheesecake (yes we all like cheesecake) was still in deep thought of the perfect name for our creations.

team cheesecake
I didn’t stick with my ‘original’ plan and thank you to Miss Beam for suggesting adding Fruity pebbles (which a wonderful addition on my next yogurt experience!) instead of sticking to Dezato Mochi balls before the yogurt. The result was a more colorful parfait to my eyes and taste buds!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Let’s welcome my yogurt parfait: Around The World in One Day!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Everyone was enjoying their parfait when Beam went back to the center stage to talk about doodle using cups.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I tried doodling last year and I’m not good at it until now. Yet I did my best to come up with an artwork in the Red Mango bottle using the easy to dry Sharpie!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In the end, I was still unsuccessful in producing a beautiful and inspiring doodle in the bottle. Yet I was very happy Bella that would truly not forget the day when I created a yogurt parfait with my own hands!

Thank you for meeting new friends and the superb experience Belle De Jour! Until the next Passion Series and I can’t wait to visit Red Mango again!

One of my most anticipated movies this year is San Andreas and I was glad to catch it before anyone else! The international release is today (May 29) while in the Philippines, everyone can watch it starting May 28.

I was fortunate enough to see the advanced screening last May 26 at Greenbelt 3, Cinema 2. Thank you to RX 93.1 for the tickets and VIP seats as well!

Here are my top five hits and misses for San Andreas:

1. Dwayne Johnson’s built and muscles are for heroic deeds.

Not a fan of The Rock but with his latest disaster movie, his portrayal is believable. He played as Chief Ray Gaines, a Los Angeles Fire Department rescue-helicopter pilot who saved lives but his own life is quite not good. His estranged wife has just moved in with his boyfriend and his daughter is going to college.

2. Female characters rule!

I like that they aren’t making the female protagonists as damsel-in-distress. Emma (Carla Gugino) breathtaking high jumped proves that woman is fearless especially in time of disaster.

Who run the world? Blake Gaines’s strength (Alexandra Daddario) is every girl should be proud of. Her alertness and attentiveness is on-hand especially in case of emergency.

3. Teaches awareness and preparedness to everyone.

Earthquake news have been headlining since the start of the year. Watching the film got me scared that there is a huge possibility that this might happen in the near future.

pic 3.1

Photo from collider.com

It also opens my eyes to always be prepared in any form of disaster that might occur with or without warning.

4. Drama in between heart stopping scenes.

When you feel you are already at edge of your seat and your heart is pumping loudly on your chest because you are anticipating the next scene and then all of a sudden, it becomes dramatic.

Urgh!!! Not only has it happened once but twice. Crap!

5. Ending is quite disappointing.

Yes, I did expect that it was going to be a happy ending and that the family would be reunited and survived the catastrophe.

Yet somehow at the back of my mind, I was hoping that excitement and adrenaline rush would last till the end.

I went to the shoreline barefoot and let the small waves tickle my feet. Biela already made friends and was enjoying the day as much as I did. Ben didn’t lie when he said that I will enjoy the beach. The scenery is just so breathtaking. The coast is clear, the skies are blue, powdery sand, and coconut trees are all over the island.

I can hear a reggae song – B.M.D by Insolence playing in the background, one of my favorite beach songs. I let the gentle sea breeze mess my hair and the cool water splash on my aqua sleeveless dress then I closed my eyes and seized the moment.

When I opened my eyes, I saw Brett standing in front me with his gorgeous eyes looking into mine.

“I was gonna tell you that they are all eating at the table” he said in a husky voice.

I snapped out of my reverie. Looking at Brett right now makes me feel safe and calm. Maybe I was staring too long because Brett started to become worried.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. I just remembered I forgot to put the suntan lotion in my bag”

“Suntan lotion huh?”

“Yes” I lied. “But seriously, I wanted to thank you for all your effort.”

“Effort for what?”

“Brett, you have my happy list in your head. The sunflowers, photos, beach, Biela…”

“And the quiet moment that I interrupted. So, you’ve noticed huh?” He said scratching his head. “Let’s just say, I’m saving a lab partner in distress.”

“Well, I’m happy to report that I’m getting back on my feet Sir! But what’s in it for you?” I asked curiously.

“I’m practicing my skills on how to save a life. I’m a future doctor, remember?”

“Really Brett? Do you want me to pack up and leave?”

“No nono you just got here. I was just kidding!” He touched my shoulders lightly. “When you became my lab partner, all I ever do is save you from trouble, not that I’m complaining. You’re one happy chaos in my very organized life.”

“Is that a bad thing?”

“Not really. I still consider you as my friend.”

What I like about the story:
Simplicity. While reading the story, I loved the vibes that it gave to me. The plot is not complicated and I enjoyed every bit of it.
Sunflower, comet and music! Science, Music, Sports, Photography and of course sunflower! I’m glad that the writer did not focus on just one thing.
Hailey and Brett: The lovely couple. These two makes me want to be back to school and look for my very own lab partner!

How it ends:
The prom dance is a great way to confess someone’s feelings.

PERFECT MOMENTS

Sometimes you’ll meet your match: at detention, on the badminton court, in a resort hotel in Davao, at a lab, in a foster home, at an epic party. You’ll never know. But always keep your heart ready for that perfect moment. Read these stories and experience the bliss of first love.

Synopsis:

Kris Mercado and Noel Abad are trapped in a posh resort hotel in Davao City during a particularly bad flood. After spending almost everyday together, they realize that they are undeniably attracted to each other. But reality bites as usual, and they now have to decide whether to chalk their romance up to forced circumstances or to explore what could be the sweetest love they’ve been looking for…

Excerpt
A few minutes later, Noel came out wearing shorts and a snug shirt. His legs were quite hairy, and she caught a glimpse of his trim stomach when his t-shirt lifted as he dried his hair. Kris told herself to quit staring or he might think she’s the maniac.

He laid down on the bed, made himself comfortable, and closed his eyes before acknowledging her statement. “Okay, what do you want?” he said tiredly.

“That’s it, what do I want?” she asked incredulously.

He looked at her and raised both eyebrows. “It’s not as if I don’t know what to not do such as not stare at your legs if you wear shorts,” he said innocently, but his eyes held a teasing gleam.

Kris flushed. “Touché. Okay, no staring. No going to each other’s beds. No undressing in front of each other, no leaving dirty clothes on the floor. I don’t want to see your underwear!”

“What makes you think I wear any?” he said, closing his eyes again.

She gaped at him until he started smiling.

He forced himself to sit up and look at her seriously. “I’m really not going to take advantage of you. I know we’re still in our hormonal years, but I do act like a human being ninety percent of the time,” he said.

This time, she was prepared for his teasing. “And ten percent of the time?” she asked lightly.

“That’s when I start scratching my head with my feet, start licking my balls, and howl at the moon,” he said with mock seriousness before laying down on his bed again.

Kris couldn’t help but laugh at that imagery. She caught him smiling just before he fell asleep.

What I like about the story:
Hotel and Flood concept. Who wants to be stranded in a fully booked hotel while there is a storm? Of course no one and this is what Kris and Noel felt. I actually like the setting and the unforeseen event.
Kris the independent girl! I’m seeing myself with this lady and I like every bit of her personality. You go girl!
The heartbroken but caring Noel. You won’t expect to meet a stranger nowadays who will respect you even though you are spending a whole day together inside a hotel room. In case of Noel, he is a true gentleman who might be heart broken but took good care of Kris.

Quote to remember:
Noel to Kris
“I’m going to call you and message you every day until you tell me to stop. Or until you realize that it was real. At least for me.”

How it ends:
I like how they give each other time and space to realize their feelings for each other.

Early this year, I immediately fell in love with Kingsman: Secret Service though I’m not into Mission Impossible and Bourne Identity series kind of thing.
When I saw the movie trailer of Spy, my friend and I instantly wanted to watch it. That’s why it was a blessing in disguise when I got four premiere tickets for FREE!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
20th Century Fox held the advanced screening of Spy last May 18 at Glorietta 4, Cinema 3 and it was exclusive to the press and their avid social media followers.

Who’s that?

Meet the CIA AGENTS!
@Susan Cooper

spy-movie-trailer-2-zMyivLXhy67OmrY

Photo from clipsvevo.com

The desk-bound CIA Analyst who volunteers to go undercover to invade the world of a deadly arms dealer and avert a global disaster. I like how smart, kick-ass, bubbly and hilarious Susan is! It is my first time to see Melissa McCarthy and I love her!
@Rick Ford

The top agent and burned operative who is in between an ally and enemy. Another first seeing Jason Statham (I’m not really an action movie enthusiast!) and I must say that though I don’t understand some of his lines (part of his character); he flawlessly nailed his punch lines.
@Bradley Fine

The smooth and James Bond style partner of Susan whom she secretly in love with. Jude Law suits the character so well that I just stared at him whenever he was in the scene.
@Nancy

miranda h 2

Photo from uk.yahoo.com

Susan’s best friend and fellow analyst who is ultra naive and asthmatic became her partner when she became a field CIA agent. Miranda Hart is a breath of fresh air!
@Albert

This handsy Italian operative who helped Susan in some of his undercover persona added the comedy spice in the movie. Peter Serafinowicz is a perfect choice!

Here comes the Villains!
*Rayna Boyanov

The sophisticated Bulgarian arms dealer who possess the nuclear bomb. She is very villainous and hates people touching her curly hair. I’ve never seen Rose Byrne as an antagonist and I must say she is an effective villain who totally can you laugh!
*De Luca

The buyer who looked rich and elegant yet his face are oily most of the time. Bobby Cannavale evil strike is a quite remarkable.

I loved that from the beginning that it made the audience in a good mood already. The action and comedy combination of this film is totally superb! The (deadly) gadgets and undercover personalities were highly intelligent. Some scenes were a bit exaggerated but I’m still praised that they stuck in just making us laugh all through out.

My verdict:

Yes I’m going to watch it again! This movie is a great way to end your bad day especially it would take you to the beautiful and magnificent cities in Europe!

Today is the first day of screening of Spy and you do not definitely miss to catch it in your favorite cinema houses!

Synopsis:

~Excerpt~
“Come on! We need those points! Run for it!” someone shouted from the benches. I knew that was Ezra’s ever-supportive dad who cheered for him at every game. I’ve been to all of them, too.

“Duck!” another spectator shouted.

My eyes followed Ezra, and I saw that he was running toward me. He was looking right at me! I wondered why.

*BAM!*

A football hit me in the face, blocking me from seeing the love of my life.

“Oww! That hurts!” So that was how people in Tube’s Funniest Videos felt. It wasn’t funny at all.

I held my face in my hands. It hurt so much that I thought my head cracked and I’d feel blood trickling on my arms. The football was there, lying innocently next to my feet.

“Hey, can you throw the ball back?”

Oh my freakin’ ball of fire. That was HIS voice. I composed myself and slowly raised my eyes. Unconsciously, I batted my eyelashes, so he could see how long they were. His hair was ruffled, his forehead glistened with sweat, and he had these lines between his eyebrows as a result of him frowning. But that face, with the thick brows, piercing brown eyes, and those lips that looked better when he smiled—that was the face I couldn’t seem to get tired of staring at.

“Here you go. And don’t worry, it’s totally okay. These things happen to people,” I mumbled.

I couldn’t stop from smiling widely even though I knew I had a big, red splotch on my forehead. Add to that my uncombed hair and the tears that were about to fall due to pain, and you have a good idea how pretty I felt right at that moment. Not.

What I like about the story:
The perfect shot. My favorite scene was when the ball blasted right in front of Freya’s face. Great way to start the story!
Freya and Ezra: The lovely couple names. I’m giving a pat to the author. Nice choice of the characters’ names!

Passion and Dreams… Ezra’s dream of being out of his Father’s shadow and just finding his self while Freya continues to follow her heart.

How it ends:
The Umbra part is a bang! Good job!

HEART CHOICES

Sometimes it’s hard to choose. Do you stay or do you let go? Should you become friends, more than friends, or stay strangers? Would you risk love for popularity? You’re invited to explore these stories and find out each character’s choice from the heart.

Synopsis:
Senior high school student Jane Enriquez is the ‘dream-girl’ of all male students at Southridge Montessori. Well, except the geeky student leader Sean Villamayor. Opposing from the start, Sean never expected Jane would become his partner for this year’s Summer Camp Immersion. Will this be their worst summer? Or will it turn out to be different?

~Excerpt~
“Ordinary? Are you really that blind, Sean?” Red asked.

Sean self-consciously adjusted his eyeglasses and added, “Well, she’s not that stunningly pretty. I even doubt if she still looks cute without her makeup on. She’s only here because she’s the chairman’s daughter.”

Red did not say anything, and Sean already knew that it was the end of their conversation.

“Are you done with the supplies?”

Sean was startled when he heard Jaine’s voice come from behind Red. He glanced at Red, who looked equally surprised by her presence.

Did Jaine hear what I said? Sean wanted to ask.

When neither of the guys answered her, Jaine added, “There are still a few boxes in the stock room. And Miss Darson said you should hurry up.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Red responded.

He gave Jaine a playful salute and his infamous smile. Other girls would have swooned at this. Sean noted that Jaine wasn’t even slightly affected. Maybe Sean was wrong. Maybe Jaine wasn’t like every other girl.

Red left, enthusiastically roping other basketball team members into helping him on his way to the stock room. Sean turned his attention back to his task. He expected Jaine to leave, having accomplished her task. But she stayed and stared at him.

He wanted to ignore her, but he was surprised to find he felt self-conscious. He then reasoned to himself that it was just because he wasn’t use to working with someone watching him.

“Do you need anything else?” he asked without looking up from his checklist of supplies.

He waited, but Jaine just continued to stare. Irritated, he finally stopped working and gave her the attention she wanted.

“Do you need anything else, Miss Jaine Enriquez?” he asked again, giving emphasis to his formal way of addressing her.

To his bemusement, Jaine smiled. Her whole face brightened up when she did. And Sean was reminded of this season, of summer. He knew she wasn’t ordinary. But Sean would never admit he’d been wrong.

What I like about the story:
Every guy’s dream girl: Jaine. I like her fierceness and behind the facade that she shows with people, somehow someone got to know her real personality.
Sean the Student Leader! He’s responsible but his sensitivity and being observant makes him attracted to Jaine. Way to go Sean!
Complications… There is an issue about friendship (Red in particular), family (Jaine’s mother) and rumors.

Scenes that I love: 70 and 81

How it ends:
As the summer ends, a love story and a relationship just begin.
