When I started going to book signing events this year, one of the authors that I would love to meet and greet in person is Jennifer E. Smith. Yes, she is one of my favorite young adult writers! I was just like a cow jumping over the moon when I saw a tweet that she is coming in Manila on September!
Thank you to National Bookstore for bringing her here as well as the very entertaining futuristic writer Lissa Price.
Let’s start with the book signing before I introduced you with Jennifer Smith’s three romantic young adult novels and some great news!
The book signing happened last September 20, 2014. I was quite worried that it won’t push thru but despite of the rain and flood, a lot of fans were early for the said event.
I arrived at SM Mall of Asia, Level 1 Atrium around 10 in the morning but there was a long line already. Good thing I had a friend who went there earlier and save a slot for me!
While waiting for the actual book signing which takes place by two in the afternoon, I started reading Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.
I wasn’t able to finish the book when the interview took place. Here are the tidbits and facts about Jennifer E. Smith and Lissa Price!
The bubbly Miss Lissa Price!
*She never thought to be a published writer.
*The first title of Starters was Body Bake.
*She is a huge fan of Susan Collins and Catherine Fischer. Her literary influence is none other than Shakespeare.
*She enjoys watching movies like Matrix and Inception.
*Her agent didn’t want a trilogy so they came out with just Duology for the Starters series.
*If she can relate very well with one of the characters from her books, it is Callie.
*The book is created for you not to judge people with their appearance alone.
Lovely and inspiring advice of Miss Lissa Price for amateur writers and those who planned to be one:
Write something important to you. Find your artistic and unique side. Go to the book store, check the shelf then find the start of the letter of your surname and put a space on it for you! (Super cool!)
The shy & hopeful romantic Jennifer E. Smith
*She was 10 years old when she dreamed about being a writer.
*She is a huge fan of David Levithan and John Green. Her literary influence is Charles Dickens and you can find a lot about him in her books!
*She enjoys watching Notting Hill and Harry Met Sally. She also travels a lot!
*The secret formula in her stories is adding a cute boy.
* It is not only about love, her books deal about hope and everything happens for a reason.
*The link of her three books: Time (24 hours for Statistical Probability, 1 week for This Is What Happy Looks Like and Overnight for The Geography of You and Me)
Short and meaningful advice of Miss Jennifer Smith for amateur writers and those who planned to be one:
Read a lot. Don’t be afraid to fail and let yourself be messy!
LATEST UPDATE: Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight to be a movie soon! I’m going to watch it! Hooray!
Hello Goodbye and In Between is going to be her next book! It is out on the fall and it is about a couple who is about to go to college. They spent 12 hours reminiscing the past and thinking about their future.
Introducing the three books of Jennifer E. Smith!

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?
Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. Having missed her flight, she’s stuck at JFK airport and late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s sitting in her row. A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival.
Can fate intervene to bring them together once more? Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.
This is What Happy Looks Like
If fate sent you an email, would you answer?
When teenage movie star Graham Larkin accidentally sends small town girl Ellie O’Neill an email about his pet pig, the two seventeen-year-olds strike up a witty and unforgettable correspondence, discussing everything under the sun, except for their names or backgrounds. Then Graham finds out that Ellie’s Maine hometown is the perfect location for his latest film, and he decides to take their relationship from online to in-person.
But can a star as famous as Graham really start a relationship with an ordinary girl like Ellie? And why does Ellie want to avoid the media’s spotlight at all costs?
The Geography of You and Me
Lucy and Owen meet somewhere between the tenth and eleventh floors of a New York City apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they’re rescued, they spend a single night together, wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is restored, so is reality. Lucy soon moves to Edinburgh with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father. Lucy and Owen’s relationship plays out across the globe as they stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and — finally — a reunion in the city where they first met.
A carefully charted map of a long-distance relationship, Jennifer E. Smith’s new novel shows that the center of the world isn’t necessarily a place. It can be a person, too.
Meet the characters:
The Intelligent One: Oliver of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
I like his brain and quirkiness. He is only 17 but his maturity and smartness is like a 25 years old man!
The Romantic Celebrity: Graham Larkin of This is What Happy Looks Like
What you see is not always the truth. Take a look at Graham, the teen movie star who despite the fame and money needs love and support from his loved one.
The Quiet Lad: Owen Buckley of The Geography of You and Me
If you enjoy unlocking doors, perhaps Owen is your type of boy. Though you can read his point of view, I find Owen a mystery.
So whose your pick?
My favorite girl character from Miss Jennifer Smith’s books is Lucy Patterson of The Geography of You and Me!
Lucy is a certified bibliophile who enjoys being alone and exploring the world. I simply see myself on her and I can relate with her experience a lot!
Now it is your time to read a book of Miss Jen Smith but I highly recommended that you read all of her books! You definitely fall in love, over and over again!
Send me your thoughts below; I would love to hear from you!

It’s been six months since I went to the beautiful and historical city of New Orleans at Louisiana. It had been a tremendous experience touring the place and watched the NBA All Stars 2014. Tripped down to memory lane, let me take you to a food trip that you would surely enjoy!
Here are the top 5 restaurants that you should not miss visiting in New Orleans!
It was our first night in New Orleans when we chose the restaurant as the impeccable place to had dinner. It was jampacked and we even fall in line before we got inside.
I forgot what I ordered but platters and Po’-Boys were served on our table.
If you are wondering what is a Po’ Boy, it stands for Poor boy which is a traditional submarine sandwich that originally made from Louisiana. It is consists of the baguette-like New Orleans French bread and meat (roast beef or fried seafood).
Even though I didn’t eat their fresh oyster, I still like the fried oyster for the first time! Truly ACME dishes deserve their long line of patrons!
2. Daisy Dukes
It was past midnight when we were looking for a restaurant to dine in. We went to the other side of Bourbon St. where there were not so much people and noise. We found Daisy Dukes which was a nice cozy diner to hang-out.
I found out that meal with rice was unusual in New Orleans. If you want one, it is always with soup which is called Gumbo. No plain rice.
The boys ordered the usual Po’Boy platter which they enjoyed a lot!
3. Felix’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar
This restaurant is located at the back of our hotel.
I wasn’t able to take pictures of their food because first it wasn’t presentable, second the restaurant was quite messy and lastly the service was slow. My only consolation during our meal was the waiter who served us looks like Erwan Heusaff!
4. Pierre Maspero’s
There are lots of restaurants and bars in New Orleans; I must say that Pierre Maspero’s stood out for me. If you are looking for a fine dining this place is perfect! It is located near the St. Louis Cathedral.
The brick wall interior makes me fall in love! It was like I was transported in Italy as I sat down on the chair.
The attentive servers gave us their menus as soon as we sat comfortably. The polite waitress suggested their best sellers while we scanned the menu.
Because I just wanted to relax and enjoy the ambiance, I immediately ordered my breakfast. The foods that we chose were terrific!
When I have a chance to go back to New Orleans, I definitely visit this lovely restaurant again!
I never have been to any IHOP here in the Philippines. I know that the first branch was located at BCG Taguig and they already have nearer store in our place which is in Cubao. I was happy that we ate at IHOP in New Orleans!
The serving of the dishes was humungous and each meal tasted great except the Vegetable Salad.
I didn’t like the dressing but I still ate it on the hotel room.
One of these days I’m really going to visit IHOP and I will share my experience as well.
Nowadays, juice cleanse are very popular in the market. It is indeed in-demand for those who seeks alternative in trimming down like going to a gym or following dietary programs. Honestly, I see detoxifying juices very expensive not until I meet Friggies.
I went to BabyPalooza last August 17 and among the arrays of baby related items and booths, I spotted Friggies.
It is a social enterprise (Gawad Kalinga) created by three young and enthusiastic people namely Fred, Joey and Risa. The word ‘Friggies’ is a combination of Fruits and Vegetables which are the main ingredients of the delicious and healthy product.
How much each bottle is? It only cost 145 php!
As far as I know, Friggies seems to be the most affordable juice cleanse today. Friggies have juices and smoothies! When I visited their booth, I got to try their juices for free!
They have four juice flavors that you can choose from:
ABC Juice, AID (Anti-Inflammatory Drink), EGG and TM!
Among the four flavors, I tasted EGG (“Enchanted Green Garden”) which contains Pineapple + Cucumber + your choice of two green veggies (Celery/Spinach/Broccoli/Watercress/Pechay/Kale/Romaine Lettuce/Cabbage). It is called “Your Juice is our command”.
Main health benefits:
• Blood builder (like having blood transfusion)
• cell rejuvenator
• Oxygen booster (diseases cannot thrive in highly-oxygenated environment)
What will you get:
Calories: 100 | Dietary Fiber: 1g – 4% | Vitamin A: 15% | Vitamin C: 120% | Calcium: 8% | Iron: 20% | Percent Daily Values based on 2000 calorie diet.
Too bad at that time, they were out of stock of AID (Anti-Inflammatory Drink) and the main ingredients are Pineapple + Papaya + Turmeric. I think the name is appropriate: “The Secret Healer to quench the fires within.”
Main health benefits:
• natural pain reliever
• natural anti-coagulant (blood thinner)
• lowers blood pressure
What will you get:
Calories: 160 | Dietary Fiber: 1g – 4% | Vitamin A: 8% | Vitamin C: 250% | Calcium: 6% | Iron: 15% | Percent Daily Values based on 2000 calorie diet.
At the end, I bought TM and ABC Juice!
Now let me share you my two days experience with Friggies!
* ABC (Apple+Beetroot+Carrot)
“Healthy living begins with ABC.” And I love the concept! It is also called the “The Miracle Drink” as discovered by Chinese Herbalists for its incredible human benefits in treating lung cancer and several other diseases.
Main health benefits:
• cleanses liver, kidney, colon, and gallbladder (detox)
• increases blood flow and oxygen supply throughout the body
• regulates blood pressure (lowers high bp and elevates low bp)
What will you get:
Calories: 150 | Dietary Fiber: 2g – 6% | Vitamin A: 160% | Vitamin C: 25% | Calcium: 8% | Iron: 15% | Percent Daily Values based on 2000 calorie diet.
My verdict: It smells like beet but I tasted the carrot after. When I first gulped it, I’m not a fan. Perhaps my taste buds were surprised with the beet but later on when it adjusted, I kinda like it!
* TM (Tropical Mint – Pineapple + Carrot + Mint)
I totally agree with this: “Bring your health in mint condition.” This variant was requested by Tony Meloto, the Gawad Kalinga founder.
Main health benefits:
• improves eye health
• natural anti-coagulant (blood thinner)
• Improves cardiovascular, brain, kidney and liver functions
What will you get:
Calories: 130 | Dietary Fiber: 1g – 4% | Vitamin A: 110% | Vitamin C: 120% | Calcium: 6% | Iron: 10% | Percent Daily Values based on 2000 calorie diet.
My verdict: This is my favorite! I enjoyed the taste of pineapple and carrot in the beginning and the mint in the end!
What I love more with Friggies:
1. You do not need to follow any program.
2. You have to consume every bottle 24-28 hours only so you can fully get the health benefits!
3. Drink it 30 minutes before your meal or two hours after you eat.
4. Just enjoy every flavor like ordinary juice but you know you’ll have a healthier result after each bottles!
Should I buy it again: Definitely! I would love to try the other flavors as well as their smoothies!
Friggies is going to another bazaar! Join them on September 6 (that’s today) and 7, 11am-8pm f at the Glorietta Activity Center Palm Drive for BellySima Food Festival!

I’m like a fighter who should have a weapon when going in a battle. Just like when I watch a movie, I should see the trailer or I had researched the story ahead of time. When it is a book based movie, I certainly read it first. However with If I Stay, I saw it on the wide screen before I decided to read it.
Three months ago, I’ve seen the trailer and it immediately captured my attention. If I Stay is not even part of my movie bucket list yet I really told myself, come what may I will not miss watching this! It was a blessing in disguise again when I was able to get advanced tickets!
The Characters that you will meet!
The high school student who loves to play cello and just nobody until she met the love of her life. Chloe Grace Moretz is okay being as Carrie but I love her as Mia. She portrays the character very well and I’m impressed with her acting. Seriously, I could not think of any young actress today who fits as Mia Hall than her.
The popular up and coming rock star who enjoys writing songs and create music. I never imagine Adam as a hot and handsome guy! Jamie Blackley most likely is a great choice! He has charisma and his voice is totally good!
Denny and Kat Hall
Mia’s rocker Dad and inexperienced Mom who are proud of Mia’s extraordinary musical talent. A cool parent to have one!
Mia’s younger brother who most likely follows her Dad foot steps! I like the matured thinking of this little guy!
Mia’s best friend who just want happiness for Mia. I thought that Kim has feelings for Adam but I was wrong, she is just a very supportive friend!
The Story that you can relate to!
*The plot of If I Stay is simple yet heart breaking. It started with Mia family’s car accident that left her as an orphan.
Through out story there are flashbacks about Mia’s childhood and her high school life. Yet in the end, one thing remains to be answered: Is Mia going to stay alive or is she going to die?
The Lines that you should not miss to listen!
My favorite quote!
And I agree!
The Story Continues: Where She Went!
The day after the movie, I couldn’t stop myself from buying the continuation of If I Stay which is Where She Went written by Gayle Forman! It is about Adam’s Point of View and you should grab a copy of it! I actually finished reading the book in three hours and I enjoyed it! The one thing that I’m truly disappointed is I wasn’t able to attend Gayle Forman’s book signing a few months ago. I still hope that she comes back!
If I Stay is showing today (September 3) nationwide! A little bit of reminder, be sure to bring tissues because I’m sure like me you are going to cry.
