Day 2: Loveless Valentines
Early bird caught the big worms! It was time to see the whole city on a Valentines Day!
No flowers or chocolates for me but I had a great time with my ‘two handsome companions’: Sir Raymond of Gatorade and MJ, one of the winners of the trip.
We explored New Orleans from the plaza of the church till the platform where the Mississippi River Delta is flowing going to the Gulf of Mexico.
Here the wonderful places that we went to and I had an excellent time taken photos!
***Plaza near the Church***
***St. Louis Cathedral (the 3rd oldest church in USA)***
***The Park in front of the Church***
It was a nice day with us that I could think was to sit down and appreciate the beauty in front of me
Yet I was not able to do it because the first NBA game is tonight! Yipee!
BBVA Compass Rising Star Challenge is for the rookie and sophomore players. I was a bit excited to watch the game because I’m not familiar with most of the new players.
The game took place at the huge New Orleans Arena, eight in the evening.
It was a battle of Team Hill versus Team Webber. Our seats were located on the last row at the highest part of the arena! It was quite scary area but I had great time watching it because I could see all the whole action on the court!
So who won the challenge? It was Team Hill! They ended the game with the whopping 142 score against the136 mark of Team Webber! Yahoo! I was rooting for Damian Lillard for the best player of the night but Andre Drummond was the hailed MVP Player. I guessed he deserved it with his amazing 30 points and 25 rebounds!
Still the best moment for the audience was the blooper during the awarding ceremony! Who won’t forget the broken trophy? Andre Drummond would forever remember it!

First thing that popped out from my mind when I heard about Need for Speed: Fast and the Furious. It is because of the car racing theme. I’m not going to compare about the two films because honestly I haven’t watched the Fast and the Furious franchise completely.
I won block screening tickets of the Need for Speed which was held last March 12 at Robinson’s Galleria Cinema World Cinema 10.
I was very excited to see the film after watching the trailer!
Here are the FIVE REASONS why I’m crazy with the movie!
1. AARON PAUL is extremely hot!
I don’t know him. I’m not familiar with Breaking Bad. Yet when I was watching him, I could not keep my eyes off him. I just loved his blue eyes, his husky voice and awesome acting!
He portrayed Tobey Marshall, a blue-collar mechanic who owned a struggling garage. In order to save it, he agreed to make a partnership with an arrogant ex-NASCAR driver who is Dino Brewster. Together with his crew, they skillfully built a Ford Mustang. The car was sold out with a savvy car dealer and just as he thought that his business will be saved, Dino framed him up for manslaughter. He was sent to the prison for a crime he did not commit for two years and when he went out, he decided to take down Dino by joining the cross country race named De Leon.
2. Move… DOMINIC COOPER is coming!
Another unfamiliar actor for me but he perfectly fit as the antagonist in the film. He is the wealthy business associate, Dino Brewster who made a deal with Tobey Marshal. He was the one who killed Pete, one of Tobey’s friends. His jealousy and anger were really felt through out the film. Two thumbs up for Dominic Cooper who is a very effective adversary.
3. The SUPPORTING CHARACTERS take the spotlight.
The four friends of Tobey: Benny (Scott Mescudi), the funny pilot who got in jail at the end of the film and who started twerking with the other prisoners, Joe Peck (Ramon Rodriguez) the serious guy who goes out with the name Beast, Pete (Harrison Gilbertson) is the youngest man in the team but the one who is closest with Tobey and my other favorite character Finn (Rami Melek), the small but proud mechanic whose ‘naked scene’ made the audience laugh.
Michael Keaton as Monarch, the erratic host was a bit confusing character for me especially at the beginning of the movie and his acting was quite exaggerated.
Julia Maddon (Imogen Poots) and Anita (Dakota Johnson) are the love interest of Tobey Marshal.
Julia Maddon looks like a strong British car broker but actually she is afraid of heights. I must say that Imogen and Aaron have a good chemistry. Anita is Tobey’s ex-girlfriend who went to the city and who was married to Dino. She is also the sister of Pete. I think Anita is the least visible character that I almost want her out of the story. Sorry Dakota!
4. Unstoppable ACTION!
Flying cars in the highway and the cops who keep on following Tobey made my heart stop that I could not even move on my seat. There was no dull moment and the hair raising ‘cat-mouse’ chase at Grand Canyon was superb!
5. A show-down of SUPER CARS!
I’m not updated with the latest style of cars but while seeing the film, I could not help but dream of owning a McLaren F-1! It was used by one of the racers during the De Leon, the Super Bowl of underground racing. Other noted European super cars that is present on the screen are a Swedish Koenigsegg Agera R, a Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, a Spano GTA, a Bugatti Veyron, Saleen S-7 and the Ford Mustang.
This pay day Friday and weekend, head to the nearest cinemahouse and don’t miss this action movie flick!
Day 1: A long, long trip to New Orleans
No sleep. It was not because I was excited; I was scared of being LATE. I’ve been left by a plane last 2012 and I did not want to experience it again especially I was taking an international flight. It was my first USA trip. I was so glad I was the first one to arrive among the winners who were going to fly for an ALL EXPENSE FREE TRIP for the NBA All Star Weekend Game.
How did I win? It all started from twitter.com. When Gatorade Philippines posted a question about #WinfromWithin, I did not hesitate to join. They invited three winners from the contest to be part of their G launch, April 15.2013. I thought we only watched some kind of program, I did not expect that my cousin and I would be part of the mini activity that Gatorade prepared. Every guests/participants were given a ‘sheet card’ where you need to do a little bit of cycling, basketball, football, jumping and some exercise for you to be able to be part of the raffle. They draw lance names to win bags, shirts, GC’s and even mountain bike.
Unfortunately my cousin won some prizes while I had nothing. I wanted to go home at the time but she insisted that we stayed until the end of the show because of a FREE SHIRT! She really wanted the shirt for a souvenir and so we linger for awhile. It was 10 in the evening, it was nearing the end and Gatorade had a surprised for their guests, they would send TWO WINNERS to watch the NBA All Star Weekend Game on February 2014. They got the winners via the papers inside the fish bowl and luckily my number 188 was the first to be picked out.
And now, I’m just 18 hours away from New Orleans. Yay! It was a long trip with two stop-overs. I said hello to Tokyo and Detroit before heading to Louisiana.
It was five in the afternoon when we arrived to the city and we went straight to our hotel: Astoria Crowne Plaza located at the heart of New Orleans. It was near the Bourbon Street and in front of Foot locker. I actually loved the location of the hotel because it is adjacent to every accessible place like Walgreens, Forever 21 and CVS Pharmacy.
Much to my excitement to rest my tired body from a long trip, the hotel room that assigned to me was not good.
First, my room key card was not functioning.
I had to go down to the reception area with my two luggages just to get my duplicate card.
Second, the shower and faucet in the bathroom could not be open.
I was not able to take a bath that day. I requested for the hotel staff to fix it and they only did it on my 3rd day.
Lastly, I had difficulty using their phone though it has instructions. I was not able to make even a local call.
Good thing the room’s interior was pleasing, comfortable and spacious.
Even the bathroom is inviting!
I was still looking forward for our second day, hoping for a much exciting day on a non-sleeping city.
When about Tagaytay, three things cross my mind: cold breeze, People’s Palace in the Sky and bulalo. Now I can add one more thing that I would forever remember about Tagaytay, Taal Vista Hotel.
I was fortunate to won a gift certificate of an overnight stay at Taal Vista!
It was an early gift because I was planning to celebrate my birthday at a hotel. Yay!
I wanted to avail the free stay exactly the day of my birthday but when I called up at their reservations hotline; I was informed that the date I wanted was already fully booked. I inquired for another date and when the customer service representative suggested that there was an available slot but a date earlier, I immediately grabbed the opportunity.
I always checked the internet for directions however I had difficulty finding it . Together with our bags, my friend and I tried our luck in going to the hotel.
It was mid-afternoon when we went to DLTBCo bus terminal at Makati. We searched for a bus that would bring us to Nasugbu. Unluckily, there were a long line of passengers waiting and we were able to ride with the next bus.
We had a long trip. We left Manila by three in the afternoon and we arrived at Olivarez (the usual dropped off) around seven in the evening. We took a jeepney that would pass to Nasugbu Highway and we asked the driver to drop us in front of the hotel. Good thing Taal Vista is just a few blocks away from famous Skyranch.
I check-in on the counter upon entering the place and presented the gift certificate to the courteous receptionist who gave our key card and the complimentary breakfast for two.
Honestly, I’ve never been to a lot of hotels and I was impressed with the room that was given to us. A huge wooden closet welcomed us where two white long robes hanged, two white fluffy slippers and a small safety box for jewelries.
I fell in love with this settee! (I wish to have one like this at home!)
It is the perfect spot for fixing one’s self because there is a big mirror in front of it.
It was freaking cold and the bathroom made me want to stay their forever!
Relaxation at its best because there is a large television with an amazing cable signals, a DVD player and a mini-refrigerator for some refreshments.
The beds are perfectly suit to our taste and I enjoyed every bit of the time sitting at this comfortable chair beside the window.
I expected our free meal like the usual servings we were quite surprised that we would have a ‘buffet type’ of breakfast overlooking the breathtaking Taal Volcano.
After our breakfast, we decided to explore the areas in the hotel.
My friend and I totally enjoyed our stay at Taal Vista Hotel. We were planning to go back to stay longer and will definitely bring our family so that they can also experience a world class hotel service.
